CARE BEAR STARE

Produced, Creative Directed, Written, and Art Directed by Dan Sevcik
Cloudco Entertainment 2025

This animated short was created to promote the "Care Bear Stare" 2025 marketing message for the Care Bears brand. Drawing inspiration from the iconic magical "Care Bear Stare" ability that every Care Bear possesses, this video was intended to evoke nostalgia for fans who grew up with the brand in the 80s, and introduce the Care Bears to a new Gen-Z audience. This is the first time the Care Bears have been seen in their original 2D animated designs since the 1980s. I was responsible for pitching the revival of their initial designs, as well as ensuring they were brought back in a way that felt faithful to the original designs/animation style, as well as ensuring it felt modernized and fresh. I worked as the lead producer, creative director, and art director for this animation, as well as writing the script. I oversaw animation from animation studio, Studio Zmei, acting as a liaison between Cloudco Entertainment and Studio Zmei. I also worked closely with in-house illustrators and designers at Cloudco to develop and design background paintings, logos, and guarantee visual brand cohesion.

WRITING

ANIMATION NOTES

Throughout the process, I provided notes to the animation studio as needed in order to ensure the characters remained on model. This consisted of me drawing over certain frames, highlighting areas that needed to be improved for final animation.

ANIMATED INTRO

I created the countdown sequence, that plays at the beginning of the video, in After Effects. I wanted to utilize various branded elements, including the Care Bears heads, fonts, and colors, to generate a classic film leader that felt unique to the Care Bears brand.
